…The interior is decorated with vintage photos in sepia tone of fishing scenes and prints of sailing ships and fishermen by Norwegian artists Gunnar Berg and Jacob Bratland.

Interior designer Vivian Gunnerengen said the biggest challenge was finding environmentally sustainable products for Opheim.

“He didn’t want any carpets,” she said. “That’s where cork came in. He wanted open spaces, so I needed things to absorb sound.”

When she went home to Norway, she got color samples to make sure the shade was right.

Getting around the construction site was another challenge.

“This building is very big,” she said. “You try to find each other, you call.” …

… The move from Hangar Way is planned for over the weekend, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. Monday at 111 Jennings Drive.

The fish oil supplement maker, which employs 125 people, aims to be the first in Santa Cruz County to earn gold certification in Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design from the U.S. Green Building Council.

To achieve that recognition, a building must earn top scores in five areas: Sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. …

… Staniec said he sketched a preliminary design using skills he learned in high school, with the final design executed by Carl Pelke, Ausonio’s in-house architect. Capitola interior designer Vivian Gunnerengen selected the interior finishes and acted as the owner’s representative during design and construction.

The colors for the building exterior — rust red, mustard yellow and sage green, were chosen by Gunnerengen and Joar Opheim, founder and chief executive officer of Nordic Naturals, to match those in Norway. …
